CHRIS RANKIN
THAT GINGER BLOKE
Chris Rankin brings more than 25 years of experience across stage, screen and live production to community theatre companies looking to make their productions stronger, smarter and more ambitious.
Working as a producer, director, creative and production consultant, Chris helps volunteer-led theatre companies navigate the practical realities of putting on a show — from production planning, budgeting and scheduling to creative development, team structures, technical planning and delivering the finished production.
His experience comes from both sides of the industry. Chris has worked behind the scenes in production roles for major television productions and companies including Bad Wolf, BBC, FOX and Carnival, with credits including A Discovery of Witches, Atlantis, The Bastard Executioner and Downton Abbey.
His professional career began at just 16, when he wrote to request an audition for the role of Percy Weasley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. He went on to portray Percy for more than a decade, becoming part of one of cinema's most successful and recognisable film franchises.
Today, Chris is based in South Wales and is Lead Producer and Chair of Brecon Little Theatre, a volunteer-led community theatre company in Mid Wales. This gives him first-hand experience of the other side of the equation: delivering ambitious productions with volunteers, community performers, finite budgets and the resources available to a local organisation.
Chris doesn't believe community theatre needs to become professional theatre. He believes it deserves access to professional experience & knowledge.
Alongside his theatre and production work, Chris continues to appear at conventions and fandom events around the world, connecting with audiences and sharing his experiences from the Harry Potter films. He also supports charitable initiatives, particularly those connected with community theatre and LGBTQ+ organisations.
